What the housefly taught me?

It was a sunny afternoon. You know, those saturday afternoon that just seem to go on forever. I stood staring through the window at the kids playing ten-ten in my neighbours compound. This what the alliance boredom and PHCN( Power Holding company of Nigeria) could reduce a driven young entrepreneur to on hot saturday afternoon.

Suddenly, I heard the buzz behind me.Before I could turn to see what it was, the noisy intruder had whizzed past me and had managed to squeezed between the windows into netting. It was a house fly in its mindless pursuit of happyness. It tried harder and harder to get past the spawling monster to no avail. The harder it tried the fainter its buzz got.

In pity, precipitated by the boredom,I open the windows to let the poor thing out.But it wouldnt leave. It kept on fighting the sprawling mesh monster the way it knew.It wouldnt just try flying back, retrace its steps, explore other options, it just stuck to its guns and died by it ,aibeit with the windows wide open.

Suddenly I realised that I wasnt much better than this fly, there are ways and means in my life that I had stuck to as the truth and I never considered for one second the possibilities of trying our methods.Phew! thats me humbled by the experience of a common house fly. May your soul rest in peace.

The Economics of Greed

If Barack Obama aspired to be the president of the United States, then I have a right to aspire to make all the money modern economics has to offer. This is basically the economics of greed. Its a cliched fact that without a vision, the destination becomes elusive and without an aspiration ant hills pose as a mighty mountains. Baseline without greed you cannot make money.

By deconstructing what that emotion really means ,you'd find out that Greed is an aspiration to have more of the opportunities that present themselves in everyday life as challenges and otherwise. This year I set out with a personal target of a profit after tax of 20million Naira, to me it looked like a huge sum ,however after my mind had settled on that goal, i started to see opportunities that will make it possible, come my way. If I had set my mind on just enough to get by, get by I would ,leaving out to waste the abundance which my mind could create.
What I have noticed is a change of attitude, now I wake up at 4am cos I know am deficient in what it takes to earn what I want. Also, am burning the 2 ends of the candle because I have a sense of urgency, so by been greedy what you get is a drive - enough to propel you to the moon but at worst to get you to the top of Burj Kalifa.

However, as a man of faith, i sought to understand this new insight from the biblical point of view (I anchor every personal philosophy I develop on the bible to ensure am not self deluding) and I found out that Paul instructs that if the Christians were to demand a thing from God to consume it on their lustful desires they ask amiss, thus the key is not to confuse laziness with modesty. Man was made to have, he was created in abundance to live and enjoy. However he was created to populate the earth as well, showing that all in all, he is subject to his role of preserving the earth. Greed as in aspiration is a good thing but then the ability to conquer ones desires and live in the sustainable view of the world is expedient. Aspire more and more, but consume less and less on the lustful desires which is our human flaw.

I sell Bananas; What do you sell?

In my observation, companies are always deluded to think that whatever they are selling is a finished product. Hardly does anyone sell a finally finished product. Companies must see their product as a tool for further production. In this way the company will be able to understand better the longtail uses of the products they are selling, thereby providing a better experience for the user.

For instance, a man who buys a diamond ring doesn’t buy a piece of rock, rather a tool for communicating his love to his wife. Thus a value added service to further accentuate this message by say Tiffany will increase the value of their rocks. A newspaper is a medium of enlightenment etc
Therefore, companies should do an end to analysis of their value chain scanning the functional and emotive value of their product.

Steve Jobs is a master of the emotive, this is why Apple products are always revolutionary. If you have a device with 1terabyte of music storage or 100gb of music storage and a cool design… who do you think will win more customers ? Design always win, that why Men dont mind Blonds even if they are dumb. As we end the age of Technological abundance we enter an age of emotional scarcity, so we are all back to the starting point once again. The deliverable is an emotional appeal and the opportunity is infinite.

When the Nigerian government loves you- you get head lice

Do you know what a headlice is, gosh that thing can take the sun out of a beautiful saturday. They keep gnawing and gnawing at your scalp until you give up or kill them. That's the new threat that Okada(motorbike) users like myself face today. The Government has mandated that both the driver and the passenger of the motorbike must wear an helmet a good thing. But wearing a public helmet is like using a public toilet that isnt well maintained. Well, the Nigerian Government has declared that we should all wear helmets now, such awesome love or Could we all be leaving in a conundrum of beautiful lies. The Government who doesnt care that armed robbers would not allow us enjoy our night rest with the other eye closed suddenly loves us so much that they ensure we wear helmets. Don't want to be cynical but it seems someone has replaced the s in sense with a d.Helmets? No teach the Aboki( Motorcycle driver) how not to drive an Okada, those guys are not from around here, they are cats, cause I think they can beat death to it's game nine times.anyway please someone, anyone help us tell the Dovernment to start issuing Cyclers license maybe that will save us.

the 3D vision

Hi All,earlier this year after Acumenfund refused to make me a fellow( now I realised how badly I wanted that). I decided that I was going to take some time off the development path and try to get rich.I figured that if I could have my own millions to throw around, I wouldnt need to throw proposals around trying to get funds to power my ideas.Well despite all that I am back working on another model that seeks to solve the problem of development using technology. Here's the Idea:

The 3D: The developer, development and the developing world. The developer is anyone that can articulate a solution to a well defined problem, while development in this case will be the solutions that are developed as a result of the ideas of the developer.

THE SITUATION NOW
The general approach in attempting to solve Africa’s problem had always been to transfer an already successful solution from another part of the world to Nigeria. However this approach has suffered a lot of setbacks because it doesn’t put into consideration the local reality of the target population.
WHAT WE PROPOSE?
3D’s vision is to approach this problem from the local reality in essence you discuss what the problem is and we can together create a TECHNOLOGY based solution for it. This approach will definitely solve the dead aid quagmire in which Nigeria and the continent has always found itself.
KINDLY LET US REASON TOGETHER
A computer programmer is a developer who can use the computer to create solutions to problems based on the problem definition they had received.
Who prepares the problem definition?
The person who understands the problem most and can articulate its solution best.
What are we saying?
We are saying that even more important that the Computer programmer is the person who understands the problem to be solved. This is exactly what 3D is championing. 3D sees a future where everyone can see themselves as a developer no matter their discipline or educational achievement. 3D wants to help beat the fear of the non-techie folks and encourage them to come forward with their developmental ideas so that a perfect team can be form to deliever the best solutions and develop our country there by.
